Beauty Favourites for July
You know the drill, it's time I tell you about some of my favourite beauty products from the past month - let's just get into it shall we? Oh,and if you don't feel like reading, scroll down to the video.
First up is a pretty spendy product, the Givenchy Mattisime Velvet Compact Powder. This is a sheer coverage powder foundation with a velvety matte finish. I've been using it to set my makeup and love how the fine particles sit so lightweight on the skin. It's applies beautifully under the eyes too. This mops up 100% of shine adding just a hint more coverage to my base, and keeps my skin matte for hours. I'm using the slightly yellow toned shade 01.
Apologies for this next one as it's also super spendy and even worse than that, was limited edition and is now sold out. But, I have a sneaking suspicion this will be brought back in a future collection. Marc Jacobs O!mega Bronze, Tan-Tastic! is my new favorite bronzer. First off the packaging is beautiful, like a perfectly polished marble pebble, yet it's also increbly practical; slim and lightweight with a giant mirror and pan. The tone is perfectly neutral, not to red or yellow, and the texture is butter.
Onto something a tad more affordable that's actually still for sale, I'm a bit obsessed with Maybelline's The Colossal Big Shot Volume Express Mascara. It's incredibly volumising - maybe even veering into slightly clumpy territory - and densely black, so it looks amazing paired with a smokey eye or winged liner. The brush is the perfect size to catch all of my lashes and it lasts all day without rubbing or flaking off, but it's not waterproof so can easily be removed at the end of the day.
Tarte Quench Lip Rescue, in Rose has become my go-to lip balm in recent months. I love that it's a lipstick bullet and not a little pot - I really can't stand getting gloopy paste under my nails. It has a luxuriously oily texture that feels very cushiony on the lips, and is as shiny as gloss but without the stickiness. Plus the cooling peppermint flavour makes your lips tingle in a good way. I've actually been going to the bother of transferring it between handbags so that I always have it on me, a sign of true love.
I love a good cheek stain and Pixi's Sheer Cheek Gels are a fab new addition to my collection. The sheer watercolour pigment imparts a naturally flushed look to the cheeks that lasts all day. I find these easier to apply than the Benefit stains as the gel texture allows more play time to blend in - no racing stripes here. They're easy to blend over powder and foundation too and leave a subtle wet sheen for a daytime appropriate highlight.
So many people have asked me recently if I've had my brows tattooed and the answer is no, I'm just using the Stila Stay All Day Waterproof Brow Pens. I use a combination of medium; a taupe ashy brown that's perfect for building up the body of my brows, and dark; a deep brunette shade I use to add individual hairs. The effect is sharp and defined and completely indelible; honestly I struggle to remove these with oil based cleanser. Click here to watch an in-depth tutorial on how use these pens to create a brow tattoo effect.
Shout-out to the Backstage Beauty Makeup Brushes, an affordable range that I've been reaching for more often than not. The bristles are soft, the shapes are well thought out and the handles are millenial pink. What more could you want?
My nails were in a pretty sorry state after I removed my acrylics, and I've been using the Revitanail Nail Strengthener to get them back into shape. It's a treatment specifically designed to build up your nails after having gels or acrylics. It's been fantatstic for preventing chipping and peeling and helping to grow out the damage. I use it twice a week and am quite enjoying the simple clear manicure aesthetic.
I brought the Dermalogica Dynamic Skin Recovery with me to Ireland last month and used it every day as my moisturiser. It's a very lightweight SPF 50, packed with antioxidants to protect your skin from the elements. It sits perfectly under makeup and crucially, didn't break me out! I'm almost finished this one and will most definitely be re-purchasing.
